I am often asked about the tools available to help map out how people are connected to each other. For example, if you have a known prospect or client name and you’re trying to determine who they’re connected to in business, it may help you find additional introductions. It’s all about degrees of separation, right?
Three tools I find helpful are:
Muckety allows you to input the name of a person or organization and you’ll get a nice visual of the connections. The site bills itself as “the place for tracking people and organizations with power and influence!”
Corporation Wiki has a similar functionality connecting more than 20 million companies and nearly 26 million executives, and you can also search by state.
LinkedIn has a great advanced search feature that even free account users will find useful. While the output will be in a list format, you’ll have a great sense of just how many degrees you are separated from someone. From there, you can decide the best course of action for reaching out. Ask to connect directly or get introduced through a common connection.
